Indian Film festival of Melbourne  , one of the pioneers of the International Film festivals dedicated to Indian films  started on 10th August 2018 at Melbourne , Victoria, Australia
The prog started with a press conference being held at Collins street and had a wide panel of celebrities from Bollywood .


Rani Mukherji, Freida Pinto, Rajkumar Hirani, Vicky Kaushal, Richa Chaddha, Sadiya Ali, Tabrez Noorani to name a few from the whole.

Festival director, Mitu Bhowmick stated : The festival would be hosting more than 60 films in more than 22 languages and will be having series of entertainment including panel discussions , one to one conversations , Bollywood Dance competitions and the esteemed and glamorous IFFM awards night.

Mitu Bhowmick is the Festival Director of the Indian Film Festival - Bollywood and Beyond - ANZ , and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne presented by the Victorian Government .She is presently working on the 4 part series - New India. The first part 'Spice Girls of India' has been the official selection at the Feminist Film Festival of London. Mitu also represents the prestigious International Film Festival of India held annually in Goa as their curator for films from Australia and New Zealand. She currently is is currently the director of Mind Blowing Films, a film production/distribution company which specialises in Indian cinema.





The Mayor of Melbourne SALLY CAPP, sends her message"From dramas to documentaries, comedies to musicals, the 2018 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is set to showcase the finest selection of colourful and vibrant films. The City of Melbourne is a proud supporter of this event. Festivals such as this enrich the cultural life of our city as a whole."

As Mitu states , Mr.Martin Foley, Minister of Creative Industries has been a great support to the festival.
 He shared  ,"This year’s festival is expected to attract more than 35,000 people to events across Melbourne, bringing together diverse communities through a shared love of film. 
Festivals like IFFM make so many contributions to Victoria – socially, culturally and economically – and they’re a big reason why we’re the creative state."


It is indeed a proud moment when people around the world speak of India's contribution and Indian community's contribution for the universal brother hood and love .

We have been a nation known for love and acceptance alongwith varied culture. Festivals like this which are held abroad makes it more predominant and proclaim our identity in a very positive manner.


11th AUGUST 2018 :
And the morning of Melbourne was welcomed with a smile as it was a beautiful weather and so started the celebration of Indian Indeendence day celebrations at the Federation square , Melbourne.

The chief guest being the queen of hearts, Rani Mukherji ,who dazzled in her white floral chiffon saree with elegants pearls adorning as her smile.

The federation square was a place turned to a small earth with music, dance, colourful dresses, glitters, confettis, food, ,a fiesta which brought people across the world together as a whole family.

Minister Martin Foley exclaimed, "We don't have the largest Indian community here but the best and quality of Indian community which brings to us such beautiful events every year.Melbourne is home to a flourishing Indian community and our city has a great appreciation for India’s film history, including Bollywood productions filmed in Australia

Independence Day celebrations witnessed the famous Dhol Tasha performance from the traditional heritage of Maharashtra ,which are usually played during the Ganpati Puja celebrations. The display of such traditional performing arts in a distant land with such fervour brings back nostalgic memories and evokes a sense of pride .








As the programme moved ahead , the amalgamation of tradition and trending bollywood styles picked up with the the Telstra Bollywood Dance competition which was an array of fabulous dances from young talents was judged by none other than dancing queen Malaika arora .

Motherhood they say changes priority and course of life yet undeterred focus and passion for work makes one stand away from crowd and so has been Rani Mukherji. Alongwith her daugher ,she shared the stage with young kids on this one of the interesting  evening session sharing her views  on Motherhood, acting, her passion towards work in conversation with  renowned  journalist of India Rajeev Masand .

Rajeev needs no introduction,  he was the Assistant Editor at The Indian Express, Special Correspondent and Film Critic at Star News and additionally Entertainment Editor and Film Critic at CNN-IBN.Rajeev will be covering the 2017 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on his show Rajeev Masand Ki Pasand, currently airing on IBN7.

completely floored the interview and made everyone feel home.

 Another interesting session was with Team of movie  Sanju , including Rajkumar Hirani, Vicky Kaushal & Abhijat Joshi   who held the audience in awe one after another by their straight and sincere answers .

Director  Raj kumar Hirani spoke  about the kind of characters shown in the movie and why those characters  were included or not included in the script .Replying to a question about passion and interest, he said "If you have obsession for something ,go for it ,but it requires huge amount of continous  efforts to reach there"
Abhijat Joshi too stated "Follow your aptitude and  not follow your desires." when asked about following your dreams the theme on which  movie 3 idiots was based. He said one should not to differentiate between simple desires and  passion , our aptitude can take us there .

There were few other discussions and interactions including one with Team Mahanati which was interesting to hear about the making of an unique biopic.
